Provider of Grant for Purchase and Training of First K-9 Dog in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania Sheriff's Office
His name is Yago and he hails from Germany. Within months of his arrival, a $1 million drug bust was made in the course of accompanying the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) on an investigation.
At the scene of the bust, the two-year-old canine detective was deployed to search out a mini van. Remarkably, the dog sniffed out the heroin located inside the car, while making an exterior search. It turned out that the bag was against the back hatch door hidden behind the spare tire. On a daily basis, sheriff's detectives enter homes, apartment buildings and other facilities where wanted persons are believed to be hiding, putting these deputies at great risk of serious injury from assault. If not for the keen senses of the K-9 dog, the persons can go undetected or position themselves for an ambush of the searching offices. Based on the fact that a highly-trained K-9 dog significantly increases the safety level for these deputies, and on his own personal belief that the root of burglary, theft and crime is often drug related, Russ Cersosimo, CEO of Guardian Protection Services, made available a $7000 grant for the purchase and training of such a dog. "If you can get to the root of the problem, you address one of the roads to solution. By sponsoring this K-9 dog, we give law enforcement officers additional help in solving the problem and therefore in reducing crime," Cersosimo said. |
